Rodrigo de Rato, MBA 74, managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), speaks about the global economy in his presentation, "Shared Responsibilities: Solving the Problem of Global Imbalances." Prior to his IMF appointment, Rato served as the Vice President for Economic Affairs and Minister of Economy for Spain, managing economic policy with long-term objectives of low and stable inflation and low public deficit. His successes positioned Spain to meet the criteria for membership in the EU's Economic and Monetary Union in May 1998.
